In 2026, that commitment was recognised with Gold + Editor’s Choice in the Baby + Kids Bedroom category at the Clean + Conscious Awards.
For our team, it was an incredibly special moment — particularly as Milari celebrates 10 years of creating healthier sleep spaces for growing dreamers.
But perhaps the most meaningful part wasn’t simply winning. It was why the Ultimate Air was recognised.
From Bronze to Gold + Editor’s Choice
Our relationship with the Clean + Conscious Awards goes back several years.
In 2022, the Milari Green Baby Mattress received Bronze in the Clean + Conscious Awards. At the time, that recognition meant an enormous amount to our small Australian brand.
Four years later, we returned with the Ultimate Air Baby Mattress — a mattress that represents everything we have learned, questioned and refined over a decade of designing baby sleep products.
To see our flagship mattress receive Gold + Editor’s Choice in 2026 feels like a beautiful milestone in the Milari story.
It also gives us an opportunity to talk about something far more important than an award: what should parents actually look for inside a baby mattress?
What are the Clean + Conscious Awards?
The Clean + Conscious Awards celebrate products and brands focused on cleaner ingredients and materials, ethical practices, sustainability and social responsibility.
All products are evaluated on these larger issues before being considered by the Expert Panel.
For Milari, that matters.
We have always believed that creating a more considered baby mattress is about more than what you can see on the outside. It means thinking about where materials come from, what is — and isn’t — used inside the mattress, how products are manufactured and how long they are designed to last. The Ultimate Air was created with those questions at its heart.
What makes the Milari Ultimate Air Baby Mattress different?
A baby can spend many hours each day sleeping, resting and playing on their mattress.
That is why we believe the materials beneath the fitted sheet deserve just as much consideration as the things we choose to put directly against a baby’s skin.
This is achieved by using natural and certified organic ingredients in the Ultimate Air, instead of your standard polyurethane foams, to make a durable, breathable and supportive sleep surface.
Organic Coconut Coir
At the heart of the mattress is organic coconut coir. Made from coconut fibre, coir creates a naturally firm and breathable foundation. Its open structure allows air to move through the core while providing the support required in an infant mattress.
It is one of the reasons coconut has become such an important symbol in the Ultimate Air story: something remarkably simple from nature can perform an incredibly practical job.
GOLS-Certified Natural Dunlop Latex
The Ultimate Air is made with 100% natural Dunlop latex that is sourced from a GOLS-certified supplier.
Natural latex offers resilient comfort and support without introducing polyurethane or memory foam. We don't work with a blend of synthetic latex, and we don't inject fragrance or dye into our natural latex comfort layer.
This allows the natural-material approach behind the mattress to play well with the firmness of the coconut coir.
Natural Australian Wool
A layer of natural Australian wool adds another remarkable natural fibre to the construction.
Wool is prized for its temperature regulation and moisture-wicking as well as its natural core of resilience in a mattress.
Rather than chemically treating the wool with a flame-retardant, we have selected wool as part of our holistic product construction.
GOTS-Certified Organic Cotton
Closest to your baby’s sleep surface is GOTS-certified organic cotton. Soft, breathable and familiar, organic cotton completes a mattress designed around natural fibres rather than layers of synthetic foam.
Together, coconut coir, natural latex, Australian wool and organic cotton form the foundation of the Ultimate Air.
What You Won’t Find Inside the Ultimate Air?
Sometimes what isn’t inside a baby mattress matters just as much as what is.
The Ultimate Air is made without polyurethane foam or memory foam, chemical adhesives between the comfort layers, chemical flame retardants, synthetic latex blends, springs or coils, vinyl, PVC or TPU waterproofing, and phthalates.
Instead of trying to recreate the feel and performance of natural materials synthetically, we chose materials that already possess the qualities we were looking for.
It’s a philosophy that sounds simple — but it shaped virtually every decision we made.
A Firm Baby Mattress Designed With Safety in Mind. Natural materials alone don’t make a suitable infant mattress.
Firmness matters
The Ultimate Air Baby Mattress has been independently tested to the AS/NZS 8811.1:2013 infant mattress firmness standard.
Its dual-sided construction is designed to support children through different stages, with a firm infant sleep surface and a toddler side intended for use from 18 months+.
For parents comparing organic cot mattresses in Australia, we believe this distinction is important. Materials, comfort and sustainability matter — but they should sit alongside appropriate infant firmness and safe-sleep considerations.
Designed to Last Beyond the Baby Stage
One of the features recognised by the Clean + Conscious judging panel was the Ultimate Air’s dual-sided design.
Rather than designing a mattress for a very short window of infancy, we wanted Ultimate Air to grow with a child.
The infant side provides the firm surface required during the baby's earliest stage, while the toddler side provides a different comfort experience as they grow.
Extending the useful life of a product is also part of designing more consciously. A product that can serve a family for longer ultimately needs to be replaced less often.
What the Clean + Conscious Expert Panel Said?
Independent feedback is particularly meaningful because it allows someone outside Milari to experience the finished product rather than simply read our claims about it.
Clean + Conscious Awards judge Leila Armour wrote:
“I was genuinely so impressed with this mattress and honestly blown away by the quality.”
Her assessment highlighted the dual-sided design, firmness and comfort, natural fibres, minimal packaging and the care behind the wider Milari brand.
She concluded:
“A brand setting an incredibly high standard across both product integrity and conscious business practices.”
Clean + Conscious Awards founder Emily Fletcher also highlighted the materials used throughout Ultimate Air:
“This is a beautifully made mattress that really stands out for its commitment to natural, certified materials.”
She specifically noted the combination of organic cotton, natural latex, coconut coir and Australian wool, and the care taken with each layer to create a healthier sleep environment for babies.
For a product we spent so much time developing, those words mean an enormous amount to us.
More Than the Materials Inside the Mattress
The Clean + Conscious assessment also looks beyond product ingredients and materials.
Our mattresses are produced in our own manufacturing facility in China, allowing us direct oversight of production and material use. We visit our facility regularly and work with experienced craftspeople and suppliers who meet the standards we expect for Milari products. We also continue to consider the impact beyond the mattress itself.
Ultimate Air is delivered using plastic-free packaging, including recyclable cardboard and biodegradable cellulose film, and its dual-sided construction is intended to extend the usable life of the mattress.
These decisions may not be the first things you notice when you open a Milari box.
But they’re part of the product nonetheless.
Ten Years of Questioning What Goes Into Baby Sleep
Milari began with a simple belief: safer organic sleep shouldn’t cost the earth.
Over the past 10 years, that belief has led us to question materials, suppliers, manufacturing processes, packaging and conventional approaches to baby mattresses.
There is always more to learn and improve.The Ultimate Air isn’t the end of that journey. It represents where that journey has brought us today.

Choosing an Organic Baby Mattress in Australia
If you’re comparing natural or organic cot mattresses, look beyond a single word such as “organic” on the product page.
Ask what each layer is made from. Look at the certifications attached to individual materials. Make sure not to choose foams, like polyurethane foam or blends. Inspect the firmness of the mattress , if it has been tested properly for use with infants. Don't use extruded polystyrene and look at the company behind it.
Transparency matters because parents should be able to understand what they’re bringing into their baby’s sleep space.
